ISLAND EAST MEETS WESTWOOD STUDENT EXHIBITION
Venue : ArtisTree, 3/F Cornwall House, TaiKoo Place, Island East
Enquiry : 2877 2779

YAF is proud to have been invited to organise 2 creative art programmes which enabled young people to explore the style of Vivienne Westwood’s works and her vivacious personality through 2 different art disciplines culminating in an exhibition:

Fashion Make-up & Photography
17 teenagers have learnt about Vivienne Westwood’s fashion collections and quotes. Make-up artist May Sum guided the participants step-by-step, showing them how to transform their own faces through dramatic make-up and the use of different objects to create a dramatic fashion photograph. These photos reflect their interpretation of Westwood’s larger-than-life personality.

The Arch
The underlying idea for The Arch is to reflect Westwood’s spirit of subversion, challenging the status quo, through sculpture. The decision to create a sculptural art piece is due to the perception that Westwood’s work can be interpreted as architectural. Her clothes are always about volume, the illusion of space and shapes.

Led by professional artist Sum-Sum Tse, 24 students took an 8-week intensive course to create the sculptural installation. The Arch, measuring 3m in height, is an assemblage collage sculpture consisting of 24 panels constructed from found materials and polystyrene foam. Each panel represents a sculptural interpretation of printing, pleating, folding, draping and weaving techniques, incorporating themes from Westwood’s collections.
