The Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation is delighted to present The Hong Kong Jockey Club Site Specific Art Project, a three-year arts initiative funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. The project was designed to provide young people with an opportunity to work with established artists to collectively create 30 sets of art installation and 3 performance dance pieces, exploring the character of the venues and the districts they are located in. At the same time, by adopting creative themes inspired by the young people’s lives and their communities, the project develops a sense of pride and belonging to the neighbourhoods among participants.

Visitors walking through the shopping centre will encounter an interesting array of art mediums such as window/floor stickers, fabric art, photography, clay sculpture, wire and rattan weaving etc. In addition, at Stanley Plaza and Sheung Tak Shopping Centre, visitors can gain an insight into how the artworks were created.During the past five months, over a thousand local students participated in this project through artist-in-school residency programmes, master classes and teacher workshops. 20 project artists introduced the concept of site-specific art to the participants and encouraged them to discover interesting characteristics as well as the historical background about where they lived. Inspired by their findings, they created artworks to be installed in community areas, helping them build a sense of pride and belonging to their neighbourhood.
